15 Foods that Boost Your Metabolism!

Hey all,

If you don’t remember, I’m in the middle of changing my eating patterns and lifestyle. I’ve never had to REALLY clean up my eating–usually I lost weight and felt better by exercise alone. However, now with a hectic schedule and living on the more severe weather east coast, I can’t easily work out 5 days a week for all the seasons. I realized I need to change my lifestyle and make smarter, healthier choices for my meals. (Such as eating more vegetables and fruit!) Overall, I’ve made strides not eating out as much, eating smaller portions, and not snacking as much. However, I still have my setbacks. I keep sneaking sweets at night! (Ugh, I may or may not have had more than one Fiber One brownie last night!!) I’ve lost 5 lbs in two weeks by a not-so strict diet alone, but I can tell the weight is coming off more slowly now. This week I want to limit my sweets-sneaking. To feel better, I need to impose a little more self discipline and remind myself it’s important for my overall wellness. BB, do you really need more than one brownie at night? Come on! Eat more fruit, BB!

This morning, I found inspiration from yet another health and wellness blog: Lose Weight by Eating! Audrey, the woman behind the blog, lost over 100 pounds by simply eating more healthy food, drinking lots of water, and avoiding snacking! She also eliminated processed food from her diet (no diet sodas, fake syrups, or fake sugars) and recommends eating “metabolism-boosting” foods. She includes a handy pictorial of these metabolism-friendly foods and ingredients, which I want to pass on to you all. Thanks, Audrey, for being such an inspiration! I love how healthy of a relationship you have with your body and food. And I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

  1. I just did a one-week raw food cleanse and am now eliminating all grains, eggs, and processed food from my diet. I had tacos with lettuce wraps last night instead of tortillas. It was still good, but I might have missed a tortilla just a little bit… congrats on your weight loss! :)

    • Wow, that’s amazing! Right now I’m trying to master self-discipline and reteach myself how to eat properly. (I’m a terrible stress eater, and I eat when I’m bored or want to relax!) Once I break those habits, I want to try some sort of cleanse (similar to what your doing, maybe?) for a boost! I bet you feel great making positive choices for your body, right? Thanks for the support!

    • Yay, Heather, how have you been? I’ve been sort of MIA because this is the month my two jobs overlap, which means I’m working nearly 40 hours and supposedly working on stuff for school, whoops! Lol.
And hell yes about almonds and apples. I love how almond butter tastes great in just about everything! And apples are so filling! I am less enthralled by grapefruits….but how do you eat them? I’ve only eaten them open-face in the morning, which is good, but a little monotonous.

      • I love grapefruit. I just eat them open-faced like you do, but when they’re in season you can’t beat em! Chad peels his and eats the slices. I’ve tried them broiled but I wasn’t impressed. Not that cake is a health food, but I have a super fab recipe for grapefruit cake on my recipe page. I made it for Easter and it was awesome. This list was really great & I was happy to see so much of what I enjoy regularly on it. If I could just kick the brownie habit I’d be doing fine. Hope you’re doing well and get a break soon!

    • Hahhaa, Ok, I will correct my error about the chart….But kudos for you posting it!! So helpful! And yayayaya thanks for stopping by! I really love your blog! I have been trying to find a health and wellness blog that I like, but nothing struck me as a good fit. The blogs I’ve seen are all either hyper athletic, vegan, or hyper sensitive about food—nothing in between! I really appreciate your healthy outlook (as I mentioned to you before!). Hurray for blogging!

  2. I really like your blog. Pretty creative layout to say the least.
Two months ago I was tipping the scales at 294 pounds. My body fat was at 28 % and my Body Mass Index was at 33%. My digital scale would wince every time I got with in 3 feet of it. I changed my way of eating three months ago. Nothing drastic. mind you. Slowly, I turned into a fresh food, no packaged, read the label before you consume kind of guy.So, I added exercise to the package and now weigh 267 pounds. So the weight is coming off.
Let me add something to this for the younger people following this blog. As you get older your metabolism decreases and it gets harder to adjust. If I knew about all this 40 years ago I wouldn’t be leaving this comment now.

Burlesque you keep up the good work here. Sorry about the long reply. Stay well.
    William
